Adaptações de anime de histórias ocidentais
Em 1981, Astrid Lindgren finalmente publicou o livro infantil de fantasia intitulado Ronia, a filha do ladrão. A querida história seguiu-se a uma jovem que vivia entre os ladrões no período do início da Idade Média, e a heroína se vê chocada quando conhece outra criança chamada Birk. Os dois então aventuram-se em suas casas pastorais, e o Studio Ghibli estava ansioso para transformar a história em um anime. Dirigido por Goro Miyazaki, a série de anime conta a história familiar de uma garota chamada Ronja, que vive em casa com sua família de bandidos desorganizados.
